Subject :Cruising Plans

This email was sent to the pacific@talkspot.com discussion group. If you received it, then I have you as someone potentially interested in crossing the Pacific. If this isn’t something of interest, drop me an email (Ken Williams – kenw @ seanet.com) and I’ll remove you from the group.

Below is the latest list I have of everyone’s cruising plans. Looking at the list, I’d say that it is extremely out of date. Much of this is my fault. Several of you have emailed me updates that I seem to have lost. Life has been a little  busy lately. We’re currently working our way south to Costa Rica and internet connectivity has been “random”.

Some of you may have noticed my comments on my blog about our trip to Hawaii next year. We are still planning a spring 2009 departure for Hawaii. Anyone serious about making this passage, let’s talk. We should be thinking about moorage. My understanding is that there is really only one decent marina option – Ko Olina, and we should be reserving space. As I’ve said before, if others want to cross with us, then Roberta and I are likely to be onboard, otherwise we’ll let a delivery crew have all the fun.

Our personal focus on Hawaii is because of our dog. If someone has good info on getting dogs into Polynesia. Speak up! If it is feasible, I could see being talked into a “direct to the Marquesas” crossing.

You’ll note below that I am also tracking people for a southern passage. I don’t know if any of the boats that were talking about crossing in Spring 2008 are still planning to go. My hunch is that none are making the passage.

For 2009, I do believe there is substantial interest both in a southern route trip (to the Marquesas), and I think I will find at least one other boat to travel to Hawaii.

Even though this is a “round the world” discussion group, I discovered last year that a huge number of us were planning Alaska for next summer. I am aware of at least 15 boats (essentially all Nordhavns) who have said they plan to cruise Alaska this summer. If you are going to Alaska and would like to “very loosely” travel together (I am interpreting this as meaning: meeting up from time to time, and doing some longer passages together) make sure you let me know.

So… everyone, please email an update with your plans, and I’ll update the list.

Thank you,

-Ken Williams

PS There is a Reference page on the www.rtwcruising.com website. I’ve been randomly adding new sites I find that might be of interest to persons crossing the Pacific. If you see any website that you think might be interesting to the group – let me know and I’ll add it.
