Are you interested in crossing the Pacific, in the company of other boats?
A group of boats, primarily Nordhavn trawlers, will be crossing the Pacific in Spring of 2008, and 2009.
Some of the boats are going south, to Galapagos and on to the Marquesas, whereas others are pursuing a more northerly route, from San Francisco to Hawaii. Once across the Pacific plans differ. It is expected that some boats will cruise for a season and return to the US, whereas for others, this is the beginning of a circumnavigation.
This is not a rally, and we will not be receiving official support from any organization.
We are seeking additional additional boats who would like to travel with us. If you are interested in learning more, complete this survey.
The genesis of this loose affiliation of boats was the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally, which included several members of our group. That rally was a huge success, with 18 boats, primarily Nordhavns making the crossing.
After the rally an informal sub-group of rally participants remained in the Med and have continued cruising together. These boats discovered that remaining in contact improved the overall cruising experience. They were able to work together to find common solutions to common problems: dealing with customs, watching over boats during the non-cruising season, getting parts from home, seeking out the best place to drop anchor, finding marinas, dealing with language problems, keeping each other company during long passages, etc.
Although this is not a rally, it is our hope that the crossing will share several elements with the NAR:
• Safety, security and camaraderie of cruising "in company" • Pre-arranged dockage • Weather routing • Pre-departure survey strongly recommended for each yacht, using NAR pre-departure survey checklists • Pre-departure "inspections" of each boat by captains of other yachts making the crossing • Daily roll calls and tracking of all yachts
On the other hand, there are a number of important elements from the NAR that will NOT be present for this crossing. There will be:
• No official sponsorship by PAE or its suppliers • No escort vessels • No technical support in the form of mechanics, divers, etc. embarked in the yachts which are crossing • No embarked doctors, EMTs or other medical personnel • No up front fee – each captain will be entirely responsible for his yacht's expenses
If you have an ocean-crossing capable trawler, and would like to know more, register by completing this survey: Survey
If you response indicates a serious interest in learning more about joining us, and you have a trawler capable of making the voyage, we will add you to our discussion group.
